I Approach My 70th Year
I approach my 70th year.
Quietly.
Carefully.
From behind.
So as not
to frighten it away.
For Three Straight Mornings
For three straight mornings
now I have seen
the same white heron
standing on the same stone.
In this we are brothers, for I,
for three straight mornings now,
have been standing on the same thought.
Well Then If I Have To
sit here for all this time
and do nothing except look out
the window at the rain,
that is what I’ll do.
I will not go mad.
I will not gain wisdom.
But when I’m done,
I will know more about sitting,
and I will know more about looking,
and I will know more about rain. Art by Zohar Lahar Recommended listening: The Very Thought of You - Billie Holiday Links of the Day: The visual telling of stories Johnny Depp's Artwork How Jane Vonnegut made Kurt Vonnegut a writer The Little People Project
