February Special Edition
"Painting is silent poetry and poetry is painting that speaks" -Plutarch
Dear reader,
I currently have a pink painted moustache, am eating homemade rajma chawal with crushed papad (FAVE!) and am attempting to stop my 23-month-old munchkin of a niece from pressing random keys on my laptop. Bangalore does feel like home, given that I’ve now spent nearly a decade there. But Calcutta is just such a nurturing space, one that feeds my stomach and soul on every visit.
I started writing to you, special human being, on the last day of February, with a care package full of poetry for the soul and art that delights me. (It is now March 1st when I send this, woops). I’ve been obsessing over colours and patterns this month, digging through old art archives online. I also came across a delicious Twitter account @BauhausMovement, with timeless gems to draw inspiration from. Case in point:
So without further delay, let me indulge you in some colourful splashes of words, textures and a few good reads from the month that was…
Poetry and Art
1. Hesitation by James Scanlan
I lost you somewhere between dreams and the sunrise
Lost between hopeless seasides and return flights
This plastic script’s always got the wrong lines
And when you’re not there it’s always the wrong time
You picked the destination I made the reservation
But just before the fall there’s that hesitation
First I lost you to deliberation now I’m stuck waiting
Colours decorating this old canvas you’re no longer painting
