The Door by Miroslav Holub
Go and open the door.
Maybe outside there’s
a tree, or a wood,
a garden,
or a magic city.
Go and open the door.
Maybe a dog’s rummaging.
Maybe you’ll see a face,
or an eye,
or the picture
of a picture.
Go and open the door.
If there’s a fog
it will clear.
Go and open the door.
Even if there’s only
the darkness ticking,
even if there’s only
the hollow wind,
even if
nothing
is there,
go and open the door.
At least
there’ll be
a draught.
Other poems I read this week:
"Why don’t we say good-bye right now
In the fallacy of perfect health
before whatever is going to happen
happens. We could perfect our parting,
like those characters in On the Beach
who said farewell in the shadow
of the bomb as we sat watching, young and holding hands at the movies." -An Early Afterlife by Linda Pastan
"Nothing good can come from me drinking
I would run, shoes off, straight back to you
I know where you live, I used to live there too" -Pressure To Party - Julia Jacklin "I’ve disarmed the elusive equity of the night
to conceive an intimate verse from its fortified mysteries;
I’ve cast aside the grieving songs of my twilight
as the sky envelops the enamored vestments of the night;
I’ve done
and undone
so many things
in search of you…" -Central America in My Heart by Oscar Gonzales "Everyone does this in different ways.
Knowing that conscious decisions
and personal memory
are much to small a place to live,
every human being streams at night
into the loving nowhere, or during the day,
in some absorbing work." -Rumi
